Mayor of Waterloo - 42nd edition
Waterloo National Pee-Wee Tournament
Already 42 years ago, as proud a payers of the Maroons, I skated on the ice of the new arena of my municipality during the first edition of the Waterloo National Pee-Wee Tournament. I skated with the ambition of a boy who wanted to play hockey while having fun practicing this sport and, why not, win top honors (which we did!). Children, my brothers and I, like many of our friends, dreamed to play in the National Hockey League and especially to don the jersey of our glorious Montreal Canadiens. Today, even though I did not realize all my youthful dreams, I will keep forever those precious childhood memories.
I can not ignore the incredible work of the organizing committee, the support of volunteers and sponsors whose sole purpose is to successfully accommodate all these fierce competitors and their families as kings. My dear allies, your contribution is essential to the positive influence of this prestigious hockey tournament. The real victory is not just the final score on the ice, it's the fact that thousands of children have the chance to play, to have fun and especially to flourish.
TOGETHER, LET'S GIVE THE WHOLE PLACE TO OUR YOUNG HOCKEY PLAYERS SO THAT THEY EXCEED THEMSELVES AND THAT THEY FLOURISH THROUGH THIS WONDERFUL SPORT.
As Mayor and on behalf of the City Council and of the people of the City of Waterloo and surrounding municipalities, I wish you a nice stay in our beautiful community and especially a great tournament!
